What is Anxiety?
Anxiety is a feeling of nervousness and worry about something that might happen in the future. Also, there is no bad outcome and it is not sure something bad will happen: The person facing anxiety feels that the bad event has already happened. Anxiety is usually accompanied by physical symptoms such as palpitations, sweating and trembling. People who suffer from anxiety feel that they are “on edge” or “out of control.” Anxiety can be a normal response to stress, but it can also be a sign of an underlying mental disorder. Treatment for anxiety often includes therapy, medication, or both.
Self-help for anxiety should not be done with the intention of eliminating anxiety. Self-help for anxiety should move in the direction of drawing attention to one’s resources and self-efficacy.
